This is a great way to spread the love ! The tart filling of golden opal apples and raspberries are not only delicious but beautiful. I used almost the same pie crust as suggested in the recipe (Martha Stewart’s pâté brisé is excellent), but I substituted a couple tablespoons of vodka for some of the ice water which adds an extra flakiness to your crust. I also used an extra apple in my mixture as well for a more generous filling and more like 2 cups of fresh raspberries. I used a few smaller hearts in combination with the medium-sized ones, but you can use whatever size you like. I found that baking the bottom part of the crust helped to insure a superior bottom crust. Be sure to serve up a slice of love with some ice cream !
