My friend Kerrie shared this recipe with me about 16 years ago, and I have been making them ever since on several occasions.   She originally baked them for a  preschool party and my kids continue to love them all these years later. The secret to these cookies is the almond extract and egg whites in the icing — it truly makes the cookie special and hopefully will delight your family and friends.  While they are great over the holiday, I continue to make them for birthdays and parties.
